Zip rims for your Piaggio Zip

Fresh Parts

Need to replace a rim because your current one has suffered damage? Because you no longer steer Zip tightly? Or just because your scooter could use a fresh look? With the right Piaggio Zip rims you prevent vibrations, restless driving and unnecessary tire wear. Whether you are looking for original Zip rims or a sporty set for a Zip SP, the right choice starts with knowing your model.

What exactly are Zip rims?

By Zip rims we mean rims that are specially designed for the Piaggio Zip. The tire is mounted on this and the rim ensures the correct fit on the hub and the braking system. Even a small deviation can cause the installation to fail, the wheel to misalign, brake parts to rub or the tire to not seal properly.

That is why it is important to not only look at the appearance of a rim, but especially at the technical specifications and the design of your Piaggio Zip.

Which Piaggio Zip models are these rims suitable for?

The Piaggio Zip is available in different versions. The best-known models are:

  • Piaggio Zip 2-stroke

  • Piaggio Zip 4-stroke

  • Piaggio Zip 2-stroke SP

  • Piaggio Zip i-get

Although these models are very similar, there are important differences that determine which rims are suitable.

Piaggio Zip 2-stroke and 4-stroke

The Piaggio Zip 2-stroke and 4-stroke are almost identical in terms of chassis. Both models have an original front fork with two fork legs and ride on 10-inch rims and tires as standard.

The biggest difference between these versions is in the engine block. This means that original Zip rims for these models are in many cases interchangeable, provided that the braking system also matches.

Piaggio Zip 2-stroke SP

The Zip 2-stroke SP is a special version of the standard 2-stroke. The biggest difference is at the front of the scooter.

Instead of a traditional front fork with an axle, the SP has a front fork with a hub construction. Thanks to this construction, other rims can be mounted than on a standard Zip.

Many rims that are specifically used for a Zip SP come from the Vespa Sprint or have the same fit. That is why you see these Vespa rims in many Zip SP projects for a sportier look.

Piaggio Zip i-get

The Zip i-get also has different versions. Depending on the year of manufacture and version, there may be differences in the hub, spacers, brake design and connection of the rims.

Therefore, always check carefully which model, year of manufacture and braking system your scooter has before ordering a new set.

Difference between front and rear rim

Front and rear rims are not always interchangeable. The differences are usually in:

  • the brake version (disc brake or drum brake);

  • the available space for the bandwidth;

  • the fit on the hub;

  • any spacers or spacers.

Therefore, always check whether you need a front or rear rim.

Types of Zip rims

Original OEM Piaggio Zip rims

OEM rims are original rims that have been specially developed for the Piaggio Zip. As a result, the fit is almost always perfect and you can be sure that the quality meets the original factory specifications.

This makes OEM rims ideal if you want to return your scooter to its original condition after damage. They may have a more modest design, but are known for their reliable workmanship and long lifespan.

Aftermarket and styling Zip rims

Aftermarket rims offer many more options in terms of design, color and finish. They are popular with scooter enthusiasts who want to give their Zip a more personal or sporty look.

Always pay close attention to the product specifications. A cheap rim with a mediocre fit can ultimately cause more problems than a good quality aftermarket rim.

For Zip SP models you often see that aftermarket rims are based on Vespa Sprint rims, because they fit perfectly on the SP hub construction.

Sizes and specifications

With Piaggio Zip rims, the right size is more important than appearance. Therefore always check:

  • the inch size of the rim;

  • the rim width;

  • the fit on the hub;

  • the mounting points;

  • the brake type;

  • the compatibility with your brake parts.

This way you can be sure that the rim fits your scooter without adjustments.

Choosing the right Zip rims

Does this rim fit your Zip 2-stroke, 4-stroke, SP or i-get?

Never rely solely on the model name in an advertisement. Always check whether the rim is actually suitable for your version.

Do you have a Zip 2-stroke or 4-stroke? Then the original 10-inch Zip rims are in many cases interchangeable, as long as the brake design matches.

Do you have a Zip 2-stroke SP? Then extra attention is important. Due to the different SP front fork with hub construction, different rims fit on this than the standard Zip. Many rims sold for the SP are based on Vespa Sprint rims or use the same mounting.

Are you unsure which version you have? Always check the year of manufacture, frame number, brake type and front fork of your scooter. This way you avoid ordering a rim that ultimately does not fit.
